Art of Participation in Russia since circa 1970
Although avant-guard art was isolated from the society in Soviet Russia, art of participation emerged in the circle of Moscow conceptualism around 1970. The performances of Collective Actions Group held in the woods involved many ?non-official? Moscow artists. It was the art in which issues of autonomy were very strong as well as contradictory desire for social engagement. The dispute with this tradition can be seen in works of latest generations: outdoor performances of the Nest Group, radical street performances by Anatoly Osmolovsky and transgression of museum order by Oleg Kulik, reality performance ?Theater of Homeless Children? by Elena Kovylina and activist art by Radek Community.
